(Reminder: Posts in the “At A Glance” category are designed to help find information quickly … certain tools, techniques, concepts which may be imbedded elsewhere on the blog, along with year-end blog summaries.)
This At A Glance post is meant as a quick reference for using a tool I described more fully in last year’s series of posts … “Talk With The Dead” … based around the research of scientist Julie Beischel, PhD. For further context and elaboration, see the original post (Part 4D), but note I’ve enriched some of that content as I prepared this post.
“Using Divination Cards” at a Glance
Divination cards are one of the tools we can use to communicate with those in Spirit … departed loved ones, spirit guides, angels, and so forth.
There are different types of divination cards … Tarot, oracle, angel, and healing cards being common examples, but it’s all fundamentally the same concept.
Each card contains a particular message. It could be something brief like, “Time for rest and rejuvenation,” or it could be lengthy and involved, with an explanation written out in a book that comes along with the card deck.
Cards can be used to tap into expansive higher-level guidance on all manner of life themes, or they can be used to reach out to a spirit loved one for something specific.
The idea is to pose a question and let your loved one or spirit guide direct you to the message that provides an answer or guidance that’s relevant for you at this time.
The Simple Version
As with many other tools, you can take training to become skilled in the complexities and nuances of card reading, or you can just keep it simple. Though basic, the simple version can still be very powerful.
1. Get hold of a deck of cards
I’ve found the specific type of deck doesn’t really matter … they can all convey meaning.
If you don’t have cards, they’re widely available in bookstores, or you can order them online.
You can also go to the websites of some internationally well-known psychic mediums, for example, John Holland. He sells his own cards, but he also makes an online tool available for free.
He periodically finetunes this option, but as of this writing, when you click on it, you’ll be taken to 3 different decks of cards. Click on the one you’re drawn to and you’ll be taken to a display of several randomly selected cards, each lying face-down.
2. Get clear on your question
Next decide what you’re going to ask. While cards are meant for questions requiring more than yes/no answers, they still need to be simple and clear. Just like in this life, a complex question can be difficult to answer …
“My mom wants to live with us, but she doesn’t get along with my husband, and there’s an assisted living place she might like, but my kids love having her around, and I work all the time, so, whaddya think?”
Um, pardon me … ?
If you want tips for wording your question effectively, check out this helpful post from well-known medium Colette Baron Reid.
3. Focus your attention
Once you’re ready, quiet your mind, open your heart, and take a moment to tune into your person (or spirit guide).
4. Select a card
Then turn your attention to your question and focus on it while shuffling the cards. When it feels right, pick a card in whatever way works for you.
For example, cut the deck, or fan it out and choose the one that catches your eye.
Or you might find a card falls out of the deck while you’re shuffling … sometimes 2 or 3 cards do. And if they do, there’s a reason, so pay attention to them all.
If you’re using the online tool from John Holland’s website, click on the one that draws your attention.
The idea is your spirit person will nudge you to select the most appropriate card(s).
5. Review the Message
Review the card(s) selected and take in its message. It’s typically represented in words and images, and you’ll find that one or both provide insight into your question.
Most often, the message is so on point it’s stunning. It still never ceases to amaze me.
But sometimes it takes interpretation, or you have to mull it awhile before the pieces fall into place. In these cases, you may choose to select a “clarifying” card … picking another from the deck to give your spirit helper further opportunity to get the message across.
And then occasionally, you may find it’s not an answer to the question you wanted to know, but instead, is a message about something you’re being told you need to know. (Seriously? Eye roll. Sigh, okay …)
In summary …
As with many of these communication techniques, it’s important to stay open. And remember, raising our energy makes communication with the spirit world easier, so approach this interaction with curiosity, and keep it fun and light!
